Le Gîte Les Roches: an unusual history

The "Villa Les Roches", a Mosan-style building erected before the First World War, stands in the village of Heer-sur-Meuse, part of the municipality of Hastière. Built from the blue limestone typical of the region, this residence lies in the immediate vicinity of the Meuse, set within a vast 20-hectare estate.

Originally home to a farmer's wife and her cow, the villa was acquired by the great-grandfather of the current owner, who gave it the name it still bears today.

Over the years, the house has witnessed many historical events, notably during the Second World War, when it endured the German occupation and bore the marks of the fighting in the region.

A family home

The Villa Les Roches has also survived ordeals such as a grenade attack at the end of the Second World War and the collapse of the ground in front of the house following torrential rains.

Despite these challenges, the house was solidly restored and rebuilt, notably thanks to the intervention of Isabelle's grandfather.

Passed down from hand to hand within the family, it was transformed into a gîte in 1998 by André Ausselet, then carefully modernised and decorated by Isabelle and Eduardo from 2016 onwards, blending modern comfort with traditional charm.
